Engineering can be seen throughout history in many forms, including ancient monuments and modern technology. Imhotep is the one who built the Saqqara step-pyramid. This was according to ancient Egyptians. Imhotep built the step pyramid in Saqqara in the third millennium BC. The Egyptians deified him later. This ancient Egyptian engineer may be familiar to you, but did know that he was also an Egyptian deified god.

Ancient engineering monuments

Many ancient engineering monuments are testaments to human talent. Ancient Egyptian civil and military engineers can be seen in the pyramids of Egypt, ziggurats from Mesopotamia, as well as Pharos of Alexandria. Other examples of ancient engineering monuments include the cities of the Indus Valley civilization and the Acropolis. The Colosseum as well as the Acropolis were created by Roman and Ancient Greek engineers. In the early 1900s, radios were used for simplex communications. Morse Code can be used to send messages. This code is very similar to what was used for writing. These communications were only one-way and could not be heard over the other. Despite the limitations inherent in radios of the early days, the idea that electrical waves could be sent over long distances was revolutionary. Without a new technology, long-distance phone lines were not possible.


Early electric generators

The invention of the electric generator, which was an engineering marvel, made it possible to generate electrical power with very little effort. Hydroelectric power was developed in the Sierra Nevada during the 1880s when hydraulic mines began to experiment with it. Almarian Decker (an engineer for the Brush arc lights who had moved from England to California because he was ill with tuberculosis) integrated generation and transmission into the first alternate-current three-phase power plant in Redlands in 1893.

How to Use an Engineering Ruler

Engineers use the engineering ruler to measure distances. Engineers have been measuring distance since ancient times. The first known measurement device was made around 3000 BC.

Although rulers have been around for a long time, they are now much more common in modern times. The most widely used type of ruler is the metric ruler. These rulers are marked off in millimeters (1 mm 0.039 inches). Most rulers in metric are rectangular in shape, and can be purchased in many sizes. There are also millimeters and centimeters on some rulers. For example, 1 cm equals 2.54 mm.
