The Employment Outlook of Architectural and Engineering Managers

engineering civil

With a projected 13% growth rate between 2016 and 2026, the employment outlook for architects and engineers managers is positive. These professionals are needed in many industries including consulting and engineering services firms. As the infrastructure of the country ages, and requires repair and expansion, civil and mechanical engineering services are in high demand. There are many projects that require the expertise of environmental and electrical engineers. These career options are likely to lead to more opportunities for engineering and architectural managers.

Despite the slow rate of growth, there are still many opportunities for these professionals. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics(BLS), there is a bright outlook for these professionals. The BLS predicts that the number of engineers and architects in employment will increase by 13% between 2016-2020. This will reflect the overall growth of the engineering industry and is good news for anyone considering a career.

engineer careers

In addition to overseeing specific projects, architectural and engineering managers supervise a team of engineers and architects. They need to create the overall product design and fix technical problems. They also oversee the development of staff, and act as mentors to their subordinates. A bachelor's in engineering management or architecture from a top university will help you get noticed and move up in your career. Online degree programs are available at schools like the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Collat School of Business.

A bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture is a prerequisite for this job. Managers in this field are most likely to have a degree in architecture or engineering. This degree will help you understand how scientific principles are used in building construction. A strong communication and analytical skills are essential. This job profile will allow for you to effectively manage staff and meet deadlines. Architectural and engineering managers work in challenging and demanding environments. This can make it difficult for these professionals to meet their deadlines.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in May 2016, the median salary for engineers and architects was $134,730. On average, the top 10 percent earned $208,700. These salaries are significantly more than what is expected for management positions. They are highly competitive and sought-after. They must also have years of work experience and strong communication skills. Once employed, engineering and architectural managers participate in financial, production, as well marketing activities.

To become an architect, you must first earn a bachelor’s degree in architecture. The course is four to five year long and must be completed before you apply for an internship. Many employers require an advanced degree once a bachelor's degree has been completed. The length of a master's degree can vary from 1 to 3 years. It may include courses in computer-aided design, drafting, engineering methods and building design.

FAQ

What does it mean to be a mechanical engineer?

A mechanical engineer designs machines for people, such as vehicles, tools, products and machinery.

Mechanical engineers apply mathematics, engineering principles, and physics to find practical solutions for real-world issues.

A mechanical engineer may be involved in product development, production, maintenance, quality control, research, testing, or sales.

What do electricians do?

They create power systems for human use.

They are responsible of designing, building and testing all types electrical equipment that is used by residential and commercial customers.

They plan and supervise the installation of these systems.

Electricians design and install electronic devices, circuits and other components that convert electricity into usable forms.

What kinds of jobs are available if I am an engineer?

Engineers are able to find work in almost any industry, such as manufacturing, transport, energy, communications and finance.

Engineers who specialize in particular fields can often find employment at specific companies or organizations.

For example, electrical engineers may work for telecommunications companies, medical device manufacturers, or computer chip makers.

Software developers can work as website or mobile app developers.

Computer programmers could work for tech companies like Google or Microsoft, Apple, Amazon or Facebook.

What does an industrial engineer do?

Industrial engineers investigate how things interact, work and function.

Their job is to ensure machinery, plants, factories, and factories work efficiently and safely.

They design equipment, controls, and operations to make it easier for workers to carry out tasks.

They also make sure that machines are compliant with environmental regulations and meet safety standards.

Engineering What?

Engineering, in short, is the application scientific principles to make useful things. Engineers use science and mathematics to create and construct machines, buildings, bridges or aircraft, and also robots, tools and structures.

Engineers could be involved in research and design, production, maintenance or testing, quality control and sales, marketing, management and teaching.

An engineer has various responsibilities, including designing and building products, systems, processes, and services; managing projects; performing tests and inspections; analyzing data; creating models; writing specifications; developing standards; training employees, supervising workers, and making decisions.

Engineers may specialize in certain areas, including mechanical, electrical and chemical.

Some engineers choose to focus on specific types of engineering, such as aeronautics, biotechnology, chemistry, computing, electronics, energy, industrial, marine, medicine, military, nuclear, robotics, space, transportation, telecommunications, and water.

Is engineering a rewarding career?

Engineering is a rewarding career that allows you to learn and improve your skills. It is possible to make a significant impact on people's lives. You have many options to make a difference in people's lives.

You might design products like cars, planes or trains, and computers, or mobile phones. Or you might develop software for use on these devices or help build them. Maybe you are interested in designing medical equipment. There are endless possibilities!

Engineers love to work with others and help them solve problems. They are always looking for new challenges and opportunities to learn.

Engineering is a great career option, but it requires dedication and hard work. Engineering isn't about watching TV all day. You'll need to put in a lot of effort to get the desired results. But the rewards will be worth it.

How To

How to use an engineering ruler

Engineers use the engineering ruler to measure distances. Since ancient times engineers have measured distances. The first known measurement device was made around 3000 BC.

Although rulers have been around for a long time, they are now much more common in modern times. The most common type of ruler today is called a metric ruler. These rulers are marked off in millimeters (1 mm 0.039 inches). Metric rulers are generally rectangular in form and available in many sizes. There are also millimeters and centimeters on some rulers. For example, 1 cm equals 2.54 mm.

Engineers will not be using traditional rulers. They would use the digital version which measures in millimeters. It functions much the same as a regular digital gauge, but it has markings to correspond with different length units. You can read more about them here.
